Becoming Whole

Becoming Whole

Posted on September 28, 20222 Comments on Becoming Whole

The Difference Between Curing and Healing When we experience injury or disease, our minds tend to think of it in absolutes: is it curable or incurable? To cure is to fix a specific part of the body, using drugs or surgery to repress or remove physical problems and restore function. Western medicine is particularly good … Continue reading Becoming Whole

🌻Full workdays mean sometimes we exercise two horses at a time.🌻
Well this is a first. I’ve had herd mates lie down when I work out in pasture but never quite this close. Luckily the brown mare was next on my list because I’m not sure I could have gotten out of there without working on her. ☺️ #happyhorses #snoringhorses #mastersonmethod #appleyardequine #equinebodywork
Humans are auto-domesticating. We control our own lives to fit into what we think others think we should do, even if we aren’t aware of it. Our lives are shaped by invisible expectations and judgments, most of which originate in our domestication. I’ve been having incredible conversations with horse friends recently who are finding the joy in not requiring themselves to ride every time they see their horse, not jumping just because they can, not walk/trot/cantering in both directions every time they sit on their horse in order to have a good workout. People who are sitting or hand walking with their horse. People who like to watch their horse graze. People who like to trail ride and turn around when they want to, not keep going to accomplish something. People who are taking up riding again because they know they can do it differently and want to repair a relationship with their horse. The horse world is changing but so is the bigger world. Honoring our intuitions can be rewarding and ps- our horses like it too. #appleyardequine #justcruising #horsesofinstagram

It can be so hard to remember to give a horse spaces during a session. I think it comes from wanting to help and assist but sometimes the best way to do that is just to step back and let them feel the sensations. Like this beautiful guy who needed a few minutes to process before unleashing giant releases. #mastersonmethod #appleyardequine #equinebodywork #horsestagram
Ms Mirabai and I enjoyed a very green stroll. 🪺Grazing in hand and under saddle can be a very helpful method to allow an anxious horse to reset and settle down. I find that the trick is to have a consistent method to start and stop the grazing, so that the when and how long doesn’t become anxiety producing. Otherwise horses can quickly become frustrated at why they can graze sometimes but not others. 🌱
Thank you to my lovely friend @kristichirillo for having me out to work on this beautiful youngster. And for the photo shoot as well! 📷💙 #mastersonmethod #appleyardequine #getoutside
